Building Your Xocai Business

And when I discussed all this with my upline, the usual answer I got was: Get 100 no's and you are closer to the next yes! Just keep calling! Recruit everyone who comes within 3 feet of you (the Three Foot Rule)! Show the plan! Then show it some more!

This is a business plan?

After a while, it dawned on me that this MLM business model was severely flawed. The only thing we as distributors were taught to do was to recruit more distributors by selling them on the concept of buying from themselves and showing everyone they know how to do the same.

At first glance, it sounds good. But think about it: what we are really doing here is building a network of other salespeople who are buying the products simply to play the money game and allow them to earn commissions.

Is this a real business,What business in its right mind operates in this manner, Any real business will try to get customers to buy their products, not a platoon of salespeople. Regular customers who purchase the products simply because they like them, and have no interest in selling the products or becoming a distributor - this is what builds a real and stable business.

Yet whenever I tried to run my MLM business in this manner, my upline would put all sorts of obstacles in my way. And the company itself was no help. The message was always the same:

1) Recruit everyone you know or see as a distributor
2) Buy all our training books and tapes
3) Attend our conventions

None of this was of any benefit whatsoever in building a strong and stable business. It stands to reason that a network of salespeople will give up in disgust after a while, when all their customers are other salespeople! Unless you are really good at motivation and willing to work 24/7, you will lose money.

Another problem I found was that the company products were usually much more expensive than similar products on store shelves, which made it even more difficult to get customers anyway. The only way to sell the products was to promote the concept of buying from yourself and showing others how to do the same.

When comparing ORAC data, care must be taken to ensure that the units and food being compared are similar. Some evaluations will compare ORAC units per grams dry weight, others will evaluate ORAC units wet weight and still others will look at ORAC units/serving.

Under each evaluation, different foods can appear to have higher ORAC values. Although a raisin has no more antioxidant potential than the grape from which it was dried, raisins will appear to have a much higher ORAC value per gram wet weight than grapes due to their reduced water content. Likewise, watermelons large water content can make it appear as though they are very low in antioxidants.

To say then that Xocai chocolate has "more antioxidant" potential than blueberries is tenuous at best. While ounce per ounce chocolate may have a higher ORAC value, on the comparison of dry weight, we see blueberries have a higher ORAC value. The range of ORAC for common fruits was around 1.40 micromoles TE per gram (watermelon) to 95 (cranberry). Lowbush blueberry (wild blueberry) was also very high at 92.6 µmol/g. For vegetables or legumes, it was 1.15 (cucumber) to 149 small red (red kidney bean); for nuts, 7.19 (cashew) to 179.4 (pecan); and for dried fruits, 23.87 (medjool dates) to 85.78 (prune).

By comparison, different species of apples had ORAC values of 22.10 to 42.75 micromoles TE per gram, white potato was under 11, peanut was 31.66 and tomato about 4.00 Spices (clove, cinnamon) showed the highest ORAC values (>2500, converted to micromoles TE per gram). Cocoa has a high ORAC value, giving baking chocolate a value of 1032 and milk chocolate an average of 71.30.

A recent paper by Schauss and colleagues reported an extremely high total ORAC value of 1027 micromoles TE per gram for a freeze-dried fruit pulp and skin powder from the açaí berry (Euterpe oleracea).This is the highest ORAC value ever reported for a fruit or vegetable to this date, after converting values of fresh food weights to dry weights. This includes a hydrophilic ORAC antioxidant capacity of 997 micromoles TE per gram, and a lipophilic ORAC antioxidant capacity of 30 micromoles TE per gram.

ORAC data comparisons of açaí with other berries and plant foods, however, are difficult because most other ORAC data were not derived from freeze-dried specimens, but rather fresh or air-dried samples were used. Indeed, if açaí is spray-dried or simply frozen rather than freeze-dried, the measured total ORAC score is only about 50 micromoles TE per gram.

Recently, a number of health food companies have capitalized on the ORAC rating,including Xocai, with dozens selling concentrated supplements that they claim to be "the number one ORAC product". Most of these values have never been published in the scientific literature so are difficult to evaluate. Xocai has used independant laborities to back up there ORAC claims.

In 2007, scientists with the United States Department of Agriculture published an updated list of ORAC values for 277 foods commonly consumed by the U.S. population (fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds, spices, grains, etc.).

Adam Drewnowski at the University of Michigan researched whether chocolate triggers the production of opioids.
Opioids are chemicals, such as those found in opium, that produce a feeling of well-being (euphoria).

Drewnowski found that eating Xocai chocolate causes the brain to produce natural opiates,
which dull pain and increase a feeling of well-being.
If the receptors in the brain that signal the presence of opioids were blocked, chocolate bingeing decreased.
It was not shown, however, if this was caused by the high fat or sugar content of chocolate candy.

Researchers at the Neurosciences Institute in San Diego, Emmanuelle diTomaso
(she's now at Harvard University) and Daniele Piomelli (he's now at the University of California, Irvine)
looked into the chemical components of chocolate.
They found three substances in chocolate that "could act as cannabinoid mimics
either directly (by activating cannabinoid receptors) or indirectly
(by increasing anandamide levels)." What do all these big words mean?

A little background information may help make this more understandable.

A receptor is a structure on the surface of a cell that interacts with certain chemicals.
Receptors have different shapes, and thus interact with specific molecules.
diTomaso describes this interaction like this:.............
"the active compound will lock itself to the protein and that triggers a reaction inside the cell."
Cannabinoids are substances that act like cannabis, also known as marijuana.
The active chemical in marijuana is called tetrahydrocannabinol (THC),
and there are receptors in the brain that bind THC.
When THC binds to these receptors, the person feels "high."
Anandamide is a lipid that is normally found in the brain;
it can bind to the same receptors as THC and thus produce a similar effect to "being high."

Does chocolate affect the brain in the same way marijuana does?...
There are chemicals in chocolate that act like THC.....,
resulting in production of dopamine, a neurotransmitter.
However, there is no THC in chocolate, so you aren't breaking the law by eating chocolate.

One of the compounds in chocolate is anandamide, which is already produced in your brain.
If anandamide is already in your brain, then why don't you feel happy all the time?......
Well, anandamide is broken down quickly, so it isn't around long in your brain to make you smile.
But chocolate may extend the feelings of well being.
Piomelli's research indicates that there are two chemicals in chocolate
which inhibit the natural breakdown of anandamide.
This may be a reason why we like to eat chocolate!
And dark chocolate contains more of these compounds than milk chocolate.

Eating a Nugget of Xocai chocolate will not make you feel giddy or "high."
This may be because anandamide and the two compounds
that enhance its effect are short-lived and localized in the brain.
THC activates many receptors throughout the brain, so it has a much larger effect.
Chocolate's effect is limited because anandamide is not present all over the brain.

have much effect because they are present only in small amounts.
Christian Felder at the National Institute of Mental Health estimates
that a 130-pound person would have to eat 25 pounds of chocolate at one time to get any marijuana-like effect.

it's difficult to determine how much enters the bloodstream and actually reaches the brain.
There may also be other explanations for the feelings caused by chocolate
and these may have nothing to do with cannabinoids, anandamide, or receptors.

There are many other components in chocolate that may play a role in its popularity.
Eating chocolate may be pleasurable because of a unique interaction among a few of its components.
Chocolate also contains phenylethylamine, a chemical related to amphetamines.
Like amphetamines, this chemical causes blood pressure and blood-sugar levels to rise,
resulting in a feeling of alertness and contentment.
Phenylethylamine has been called the "love-drug" because it quickens your pulse, as if you are in love.
Caffeine in chocolate may also cause feelings of alertness and a pounding heart.
Other stimulants in chocolate include theobromine and methylxanthines.
These caffeine-relatives are weaker than caffeine----------
